Outline:

• Understanding grief and bereavement for children and young people
• Identifying grief reactions in children and young people
• Supporting bereaved children and young people at school

Description:

This short course aims to provide participants with an introduction into the different theories and models of bereavement, and to consider bereavement at different ages and different types of grief
Ways to identify grief will be explored as well as evidence –based interventions to support children and young people through grief and bereavement at school.
Finally the course looks at ethical points to consider when supporting children and the importance of adults/professionals taking care of themselves during grief and bereavement and focused support.

Outcome:

Participants will develop their knowledge and understanding of supporting children through grief and bereavement.

Audience:

Teachers, Teaching Assistants SENCO’s and other professionals who work closely with children and young people at school.
