Outline:

Practitioners will have opportunities to:
• what the progress check is, its aims and statutory requirements
• why observations are so important and consider what makes an effective observation
• how to write effective, engaging reports that present a clear picture of what the child can do, their interests, achievements and needs
• how to assess in partnership with parents/ carers and support home experiences
• reflect on their current practice, identify current strengths and areas for development

Description:

This session will support practitioners working with two year olds in settings and schools to develop a deeper understanding and expectations of the statutory Progress Check at Aged Two.

Outcome:

By the end of the session practitioners will have:
• developed their understanding of the assessment requirements of the progress check
• develop their understanding of the importance of observations, what makes an effective observation and how to use observations to plan for next steps
• explored strategies to ensure the progress check presents a true reflection of the child
• discussed a range of strategies to assess in partnership with parents
• reflected on their own practice, identified strengths and areas for further development
