This drop-in will provide childminders the opportunity to come together with their children to enjoy fun activities linked to their children’s learning and development and strengthen friendships and links between other local childminders.

A childminding development worker from the Council will be running the session which will give all childminders regular access to support they may need.

There is no charge for FEEE-registered minders but there is a small fee for non-FEEE-registered minders of £1 for their first child and 50p for each additional child. On top of this we will be inviting professionals to attend these sessions. We recognise that childminders may sometimes find it hard to access services to support the needs of the children they care for. Therefore we will be inviting professionals such as Area SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), Curriculum leaders, Speech and language therapists, Health visitors, Safeguarding advisors, Early Help advisors and FEEE officers to attend some of these drop-ins. A schedule of these visits will be available shortly.

Understanding the role of the designated Safeguarding Lead Professional and key areas of responsibility
• Understanding of the legislation and guidance underpinning their organisation’s policy, procedures and practice when responding to concerns about a child’s safety or welfare
• Ability to evidence compliance with Ofsted requirements to ensure all children are safe
• Understanding the barriers that stop staff reporting concerns and how to overcome these
• Understanding of the processes followed by the MASH when a referral is made and the thresholds for intervention
• Strategies to ensure that there are systems in place to monitor and evaluate outcomes for children who are in need or suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm

There is School DSL training (full-day) on Thursday 11 January for those who are new to the role or who have not attended DSL training in the last 2 years. Please make sure you choose the correct course for your needs.

If driving, please ensure you leave enough time to find a car parking space as these are very limited in the immediate area. Also, as a courtesy to other attendees and the training lead, please arrive in good time for a prompt start - if you arrive more than 15 minutes late you may not be admitted and you may be charged the full cost of the course (£50).

Sessions include whole group and small group discussions and activities, small group practical sessions and feedback and planning of between session tasks.The small and large group discussions will give you the chance to look at the key components of helping within the Family Partnership Model.
The practical sessions offer the chance to explore and experiment with the skills and processes involved in engaging and working with parents and families through the Family Partnership Model. Wherever possible, during the practical sessions, you will be asked to use actual situations from your own and others’ experience to give all participants as real an experience of helping as possible. The focus of the practical sessions is on the skills used, not the content or resolution of issues.
We will invite you to complete short tasks between sessions which will include some reading and a variety of other activities including reflecting on the course learning and your experiences, observing and practising the skills covered in the course. All reading material will be supplied during the course.

In response to requests from local School Business Managers, the WF SBM Network has been created to compliment the local SBM networks.

Its purpose is to provide a forum through which SBMs needs can be voiced regarding the guidance, support and issues they are facing collectively.

The Network agendas will be created in partnership with SBMs. Meetings are likely to include: updates and guidance from Council Services; training/development workshops; and 'clinics'.

In this seminar, Dr Sam Wass presents scientific research into how childhood is changing. He explores how factors such as urbanisation and connectivity are affecting both the emotions that children experience, and how they think and learn. Dr Sam Wass gained a first-class undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology at Oxford University, and did his PhD at the Centre for Brain Cognitive Development in London. After this he was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship, based at the Medical Research Council Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit at Cambridge. He is currently funded by an ESRC Future Research Leaders Fellowship, based at the University of East London. Sam’s research examines how stress affects concentration and learning capacities during childhood. He works with typical children as well as children growing up in low socio-economic status backgrounds in East London. He is also a collaborator on projects in London, New York and Canada with clinical populations (children with Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Rett Syndrome). His research has been funded by the Medical Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, the National Institute of Health Research, the British Academy, the Nuffield Foundation, and others.

This 2 day course equips attendees with the skills to set up and run the 4 Stage Attention Autism programme. The training focuses on the practical aspects of intervention, working in a team and offering an irresistible invitation to learn. The Attention Autism programme targets the teaching of attention, communication and social interaction skills. Training is run applying the principles of the attention autism programme throughout each day. There are demonstrations of the techniques in action, films, practical hands-on experience for participants and ideas for activities. The intention is to share the practical skills needed for participants to feel confident in setting up and running the intervention immediately.
The workshops are run for groups of 25 people (with a maximum of 30 attendees), this is to ensure that the practical aspects of the workshop can be run in small groups making coaching and feedback effective.

The course will involve PowerPoint presentations as well as opportunities for discussion and practical activities. Each TA will be issued with the practical text Emotional Wellbeing: an Introductory Handbook and they will be sign-posted to other resources. It is also anticipated that TAs will begin to try out some of the things they have learned between sessions so they can provide feedback and gain support throughout the course.

• Awareness of the definitions of abuse and neglect and significant harm in order to make appropriate referrals for intervention

• Understanding of the processes followed by the MASH when a referral is made and the thresholds for intervention
• For the Designated Safeguarding Lead Professional to be actively involved in collaborative decision-making and the process for managing disagreement and or challenge
• Learning from serious case reviews
• Strategies to ensure that there are systems in place to monitor and evaluate outcomes for children who are in need or suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm

There is School DSL Refresher training (half-day) on Thursday 18 January for those who have previously attended DSL training within the last 2 years. Please make sure you choose the correct course for your needs.

This full day course is for colleagues who are new or returning to Year 6. The course aims to provide information for teachers who are unfamiliar with and who have not previously administered the end of Key Stage 2 statutory assessments. Participants will have the opportunity to look at assessment materials, teaching and learning strategies, ask questions and to engage in meaningful discussions. There will also be the opportunity to engage in some moderating of writing activities and a look at the reading and maths tests.
