Outline:

This course will explain the key responsibilities for new governors of maintained schools and provide guidance and information that will enable those new to governance to carry out their responsibilities effectively.

Description:

The Programme will be delivered over two sessions each lasting 2 hours, the focus for session one will be:
Session One:
Why have governing bodies?
What are the core functions of Governing bodies?
Governors and Ofsted school inspections
What are the employer responsibilities of governing bodies?

Session Two:
Who is responsible for what?
What does it mean to be a strategic board?
What is effective governance?
How do we know how well our school is doing?
What next?

Outcome:

This course will provide governors with a good level of knowledge to enable them to participate in governing body meetings and provide appropriate support and challenge.
