Early Years New to SENCO Training
The session will focus on:
• Special educational needs and disability code of practice: 0 to 25 years (2015)
• The role of the SENCO and Area SENCO.
• Waltham Forest’s Core Offer regarding SEND.
• SEND pathways and funding available for SEND children.
Practitioners who are recently new to the SENCO role in Waltham Forest will develop their understanding of their role as well as training, advice and support available to them from the local authority and other professionals.
Practitioners will be informed about their SENCO responsibilities and their Area SENCOs responsibilities.
Practitioners will gain an understanding of how SEND children and settings with SEND children are supported in the Early Years.
Practitioners will be informed of the core offer of information, advice and training offered to all Early Years settings.
Practitioners will be made aware of processes in regards to making referrals, applying for funding and pathways available for SEND children.

This course is suitable for New Early Years Foundation Stage professionals from Schools and PVI settings with lead/key responsibility for meeting the SEND code of practice requirements and supporting children with developmental delay/SEND e.g. Senco’s in Schools or PVI settings, EYFS leads in schools & Managers in PVI’s, Keyworkers for children with SEND and Schools with EYFS provision and Ofsted registered PVI sector providers on the Early Years Register
