Outline:

This course is aimed at practitioners working with children aged four and five in either reception classes or nurseries. Penny Cartwright (EYFS Consultant) will be leading this session.

Description:

• The session will give participants opportunities to:

• explore the role of the adult in supporting children to learn to read
• share a range of practical and simple ways to support children to develop positive attitudes to reading and a love of books
• explore the key aspects in learning to read, including the simple view of reading, with a focus on language comprehension
• consider how to develop rich and stimulating learning environments which support children’s reading development
• reflect on their current practice, identify strengths and areas for further development

Outcome:

• Practitioners will learn how to provide young children with a rich literacy based learning environment.
• Learn about the key requirements for learning to read, including supporting children to understand what they are reading.
• How adults in the setting play a key role in developing children’s journey towards becoming readers.
