This course will introduce participants to the work of New Adventures and cover general approaches to teaching dance in primary schools. The learning and impacts from the London Borough of Culture 2019 Roger Ascham Nutcracker Project created by New Adventures will also be included.

Description:

Join experienced New Adventures Dance Artists for a professional development session to build your confidence in finding accessible ways to introduce, develop and teach dance in your school setting. Using New Adventures’ unique narrative style we will explore ways to warm up, enjoy movement and be creative, leaving you with plenty of tips and tasks for your pedagogy tool kit.

Dedicated to investing in the future of dance and the next generation of artists, New Adventures is led by one of the UK’s best-loved choreographers, Waltham Forest native Sir Matthew Bourne OBE. Honouring his achievements in dance and choreography Matthew Bourne was awarded a Waltham Forest Heritage Plaque which was installed at Roger Ascham Primary School, the school he attended as a child.

Outcome:

Participants will feel confident to lead dance activities in their school.

Audience:

The training is pitched towards primary teachers working in Waltham Forest schools (teachers, subject leaders, school leaders).
