Speech and language services
Seven per cent of five year olds nationally have specific difficulties in speech, language and communication which are not associated with environmental or demographic factors. Those who struggle to communicate are at higher risk of poor outcomes throughout the life-course. Waltham Forest has a high rate of communication delays requiring specialist support.
We are excited to be working in the Children and Family Centre hubs to provide the following services to families of children 0 to 5 years old in Waltham Forest:
- regular drop–in sessions where families can come to meet us to discuss concerns about their child's communication skills
- steps to speaking groups offering support for families where children need some extra help in learning to talk
- brief interventions for children and families who may need more support to access local services
We will also be working alongside Children and Family Centre staff to ensure all activities and sessions offer children the best start for their communication. Look out for more information including 'top tips for talking' on the Hub.
See attached at the bottom of this page updated timetable flyer with Speech and Language drop-in sessions.
