Department for Education

The Department for Education is responsible for children's services and education, including early years, schools, higher and further education policy.

Ofsted

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. We inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages.

Mental Health and Behaviour in Schools

The DfE have published guidance to help teachers better identify underlying mental health problems in young people. The intention is to ensure pupils with unmet mental health needs get the help they need at an earlier stage. The guidance, created by the DfE in consultation with headteachers, mental health professors and the Department of Health, is designed to ensure teachers are confident in finding help for at-risk pupils.

Prevent E-Learning

This resource from the Home Office is aimed at those with responsibilities under the Prevent duty, particularly front line staff in schools and colleges, and is designed to help raise awareness of radicalisation. It will help staff to identify the signs that someone may be at risk and where to go for support. This is introductory training. It provides a foundation on which to develop further knowledge around the risks of radicalisation.

LGFL - Counter-extremism 

This consists of work done by LGfL with leading extremism experts specialising in ISIS and the far right to provide information, insights and advice to help schools navigate this difficult area.

UK Safer Internet Centre

Free resources for teachers including: curriculum planning, e-safety sessions, professional reputation, e-safety policy and appropriate filtering and monitoring.  

Education Trust Funds for Waltham Forest 6th Form Students

The LA administers the Sir George Monoux Exhibition Fund and Henry Green Scholarship Fund, which offer financial assistance to university and college students living in Waltham Forest. Social Mobility Foundation

A charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people from low-income backgrounds. It provides opportunities and networks of support for 16-17 year olds and support to students throughout universities across eleven career sectors (Accountancy, Architecture, Banking & Finance, Biology & Chemistry, Business, Digital, Engineering & Physics, Law, Media & Communications, Medicine or Politics).

Their Aspiring Professionals Programme aims to open up professions for those with the ability but not the means or networks to get there, and includes mentoring, workshops, university application support and internships. Teachers supporting young people to apply can access application resources

Waltham Forest Traded Services 

Waltham Forest Traded Services aims to provide high quality, competitive, traded services which support educational settings in improving attainment for children and young people. Waltham Forest Traded Services is part of the overall support structure within Waltham Forest and will play its part in responding to the demand from educational settings, alongside school-to-school services, teaching schools and the private sector.

Team Teach

Team Teach is a company which provides training courses that promote de-escalation strategies and reducing risk and restraint, to support teaching, learning and caring, by increasing staff confidence and competence, in responding to behaviours that challenge, whilst promoting and protecting positive relationships.

Positive Behavioural Support (PBS)

PBS approaches are entirely compatible with Team-Teach, further information on the approach is available from the Challenging Behaviour Foundation. 

Citizenship Foundation Values
