Guidance for Schools & Colleges

This page will contain all policies and procedures (including links to relevant web pages/ICT systems) that relate to the pay and benefits offered to Waltham Forest Council staff, including school staff working in maintained and voluntary-aided (VA) schools. (Employees who work at Academies that purchase the service will have access to Workplace Options - see below).

Waltham Forest Council employs staff from a range of diverse backgrounds and ensures that all our policies are inclusive. We also take active measures to remove barriers that may hinder or prevent staff from accessing benefits and ensure that all staff benefits apply equally to both opposite and same sex couples.

School staff employed by the London Borough of Waltham Forest are eligible for a number of benefits. Staff benefits are currently being refreshed, so this page will be updated once they have been finalised.

Childcare Vouchers

Childcare vouchers were created to help parents afford childcare and return to work. If you are a parent, make sure you are not missing out on substantial tax savings. The Council's Childcare Voucher provider is currently P&MM Employee Benefits.

Cycle to Work Scheme

The Cycle to Work scheme allows you to purchase a cycle at a discount. More information is available in the downloadable flyer below.

Eye tests

All staff using computer equipment should have eye and eyesight tests at regular intervals. Eyesight testing should also happen where staff experience visual difficulties, which may reasonably be considered to be caused by computer work. Download the claim forms and further information.

Workplace Options - Employee Assistance providers

A confidential counselling, help and information service is provided for all employees of LBWF; this will include employees who work for Academy Trusts that purchase this service (logged-in users can download below the list of Schools and Academies covered by Workplace Options), and is available free of charge 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Counselling is offered on the telephone or in a face-to-face setting, in locations close to your work or your home. This service can help with a range of problems from practical everyday matters to sensitive and emotional issues. Please visit for further information.
