Quality Observation, Assessment and planning should be embedded in every day practice to build up an accurate picture of the unique child. On-going formative assessment lies at the heart of early years practice. Effective Planning reflects, supports and extends individual children's current interests, learning styles, enthusiasms and the stage of development of each child.

'Assessment plays an important part in helping parents, carers and practitioners to recognise children's progress, understand their needs, and to plan activities and support.' (EYFS Section 2.1)
