Making parents aware of the 2 year old Free Early Education Entitlement

Early Years Foundation Stage

Waltham Forest difference in the 2-year-old FEEE

There is an important difference that applies to the Free Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) for two-year-olds in Waltham Forest compared with the Department for Education's (DfE's) statutory guidance, namely:

  • Eligible two-year-olds can start their childcare place as soon as they are two years old, if they are attending a childcare provider in Waltham Forest. The DfE's guidance states that they are only eligible from the term after they turn two.

Please ensure that parents are aware of this difference, if you are approached.

Location of eligible children

In November 2016 the DfE (in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions) provided Waltham Forest Council with a list of parents eligible for a free early learning place for 2-year-olds. Though we cannot pass on their names and addresses to childcare settings, we have made available a downloadable spreadsheet ('DWP list of eligible 2YO parents Nov 16.xlsx') of the postcodes of where these parents live.

Advertising your setting

Please ensure your setting’s entry in the Waltham Forest Directory (formerly the Children and Young People's Directory) is up-to-date. This is one of the main ways that parents will know about your setting. Details of how to register are available in the file How to register on the CYPD.pdf.’
